Why positive displacement flow meters can be used for fuels and oils?

Fuels or oils volumetric flow measurement refers to diesel, petroleum based fuels, kerosene, home heating oil, jet fuel, diesel fuel, etc. crude-oil ,gasoline, lube oil, biodiesel, marine fuels.,etc flow meters.

Positive displacement flow measurement uses a fixed small volume to repeatedly measure the volume of fluid (such as fuel or oils) passing through the flowmeter. Gear flowmeter is a kind of positive displacement flowmeter, used for precise continuous or intermittent measurement of the flow or instantaneous flow of liquid in the pipeline. Inline positive displacement flow meter is especially suitable for the flow measurement of heavy oil, polyvinyl alcohol, resin and other high viscosity liquid. The oval gear flowmeter uses a mechanical measuring element to continuously divide the fluid into a single known volume part, and measures the total volume of the fluid according to the number of times that the metering chamber fills and discharges the volume part of the fluid successively and repeatedly.

The positive displacement flow meter has high measurement accuracy and is suitable for measuring the flow of high-viscosity media, but not suitable for fluids containing solid particles (solid particles will jam the gear, so that the flow cannot be measured). If the positive displacement flow meter sensor measured liquid medium contains gas, it will also cause measurement errors.

Advantages of positive displacement flow meter for fuels and oils

Disadvantage of positive displacement flow meters for oils and fuels

  • Complex structure and bulk volume, very heavy flow meter
  • Max size is 10 inch positive displacement flow meter, cannot be larger size
  • Positive displacement can be only used for clean liquid without any solids.
  • Can have noise and vibration when taking measurement
